Chapter Two

                                    CHAPTER TWO
THe only way to find out about something is to have consultation and reference. When I consult my Mum, the immediate refuge, she gave me thorough information about the clan of the lady I thought was better. Among her words were; the location that is place where the lady was brought up, and that, it was west of our village characterised by people who don’t like others-death was not a crime. They always use traditional herbs to kill people, they mix it in the food or drinks and you take it unknowingly. She added that whenever I am going for conference or any meeting, the bottle should be opened while I am seeing otherwise that drink is out of my use. Her idea helped me a lot and not only me but, most people now days have adopted this method at any function in the country; and, for food, it should be prepared from the reception not brought from a nearby place and put together. Most people us this method to poison their friends especially in the funeral rites ones organised. Elders then sat down and said; all sorts of drinks and food should be prepared from where the rites is/are in order to avoid poisoning; I am sure other tribes in the country have copied this method; currently it is being practise among the Luos and the Bantu as well. Please, take care when you are going for functions, conference or meetings or even any kind of sittings, this goes to the youths because they are in a bad period of growth and development, take care of yourself, people are not happy of your life, education and status.
Mummy continued that, members of the clan have poor relationship among themselves, as a result most ladies from this area end up not getting married or if married will be sent away by their husband due to indiscipline and misbehaving, they end up floating at home giving their mothers burden to take care of their them and their children.
Socially, some of them do, but most of them are jealous, I don’t understand why this is so. On the other hand, this clan is blessed with fertile soils, vegetation, and land scope but, what spoil everything is jealousy, the moment you cultivate something and the harvest ids high, they will try a way of doing away with you. Now instead of doing away with that person, why don’t you join hand so that he/she advice you on how high yield can be obtained. This is very bad.
I asked Mummy, what do they always use to do away with people of such calibre you talked on? She replied, my son, people have different ways of doing things and they will not tell you that I am coming or you can see them carrying it, I wish you can see you might have escaped the trap. They use local herbs “Yat”. They usually mix it in the food or drinks but when you failed to be trapped, they will either greet you with it or spray and you step on it or put on the padlock so that you are opening the door you will get trapped; others just use fellow friends to pour it on you bed, clothes, bed sheet or shoes.

If I have to flash back, one day I was travelling with my elder brother through a certain place that is known for claiming lives of people by the use of the local herbs. When we reach a certain homestead, we were very thirsty and no borehole or well was nearby the road. The place was very dry and bushes were burnt; then my brother said, what should we do? I replied, let’s move to that nearby homestead and have some water to drink. W we were approaching the home, everybody was scared and they all look misery. There was a young boy who was sitting near the door from outside.
We asked the boy, can we have some water please? The boy thought and asked the mother which water I should take to this people, the mother replied, the one in the small pot. They had two pots, the big one and the small one. The big on is not poisoned but the small one is poisoned. I asked my brother “How many water do we have on earth, for me I know one?” they we sent for water brought the water in a clean calabash, during those days, there was no cups, people use calabash for drinking water. The  moment my brother saw the boy coming with water and shaking seriously due to fear that we shall be poisoned, my brother said, thank you for the water we are alright now. I didn’t know why my brother said so and on the other hand I was very angry with him thinking that he doesn’t want me to drink water. We didn’t take the water and that is how we escape death.
Our journey was not over we moved to the next homestead where we got a young girl baby seating. No one was home. We requested the girl for some water and she brought it in a clean plastic cup, I wandered this should be a rich family because I have never seen a cup before and affording to buy a cup or even get them was like castrating a male dog. I wanted to take it first but my brother remembers what my Mum told her how to detect poisoned water from the one which is not poisoned. Poisoned water once drop to the ground/bear floor, will crack the floor immediately but the one which is not poisoned will not crack the floor.
My brother drop a little of water to the floor and it cracked immediately, my brother told the girl, thanks you for the water and poured it a way. The girl didn’t know why my brother did it like that.
When we reach the last homestead near the road we finally found a well with very clean water more than all we met. We found a young girl fetching it, we requested her for some in the calabash and she gave it to us. We took it as much as possible. That is briefly my experience in the world of death, what about you? Have you ever gone through difficult herms as this? Time after we reach home safely.
While schooling, there was a girl whom I got in relationship with, she was at her primary level of education where adolescent prevails and take control over the body. As they studied, I had a friend who tried to hook her jokingly. I thought, that was a joke but you know village girls there is no joking, they believe it’s true. For m e I was completing my Ordinary level. I asked him, my friend, do you know how family which the girl comes out of it behave? Do you know how they react to boys who try to ruin the future of their daughters? He replied, Yes, the family is very Anguish, and aggressive. To confirm this I went and asked my Mum because she is the only person whom all information can be got, she describe as a “cruel family”.........
